Today we heard from guy in California named Al Nino. Who naturally has been taking a lot of heat for this past years crazy weather. But as Al told me, he seemed to know that it was coming.

DT: "Let me ask how did you find out about El Nino to begin with?"

AN: "Well, actually it was about 20 years ago and when I was in Ethiopia. I got a newspaper clipping from a friend, a Scottish friend and it said that El Nino creating havoc in Ethiopia and it showed some farmers digging out in the fields. Old Ron wrote underneath, he says, you're no bloody use, you create havoc wherever you go. You know, it kind of stuck in the back of my mind. I said I'm going to be hearing about this all my life and I am."

And thatıs due to the El Nino-mania that swept the country. And because of that Al has actually become somewhat of a celebrity.

AN: "David Letterman sent me for 4 days to New York and I was supposed to be on Jay Leno's show and he sent me a limousine to get me and on the way to Los Angeles, we came to a small town of Carpinteria and they stopped us there and said the bridge of Ventura had been washed out. So there was no going further south. So, I missed out on Jay Leno."

But he made it on to The Weather Notebook, and we're happy to have him § even if we couldn't get him a limo. For more information about Al and El Nino, check out our website, at weathernotebook.org. Our show is underwritten by Subaru with major support provided by the National Science Foundation.
