Hi, I'm Bryan Yeaton and this is The Weather Notebook. Today's commentator David Clark meditates on a spring breeze.

It's the cold winds that bring the hard questions. Cold winds cut through the heart of folks standing defenseless against the winters of living. Joy's a warm spring breeze of a wind. We all know this breeze. It's the breeze of paper whites and daffodils and soft green grass and dogwood blossoms. We all know dogwood blossoms and daffodils don't last very long. The world turns hot, then fall comes and the leaves fall to the ground again. We all know what's next, the cold winds blow again. The child inside of us wishes spring would last year round. I reckon, one of the hardest things about growing up is facing the truth about thirsty drought, falling leaves, and frozen ground. This winter I picked up a bundle of bare-rooted dogwood seedlings from the forestry service. I measured off strides the way Daddy taught me and introduced each little dogwood tree to it's new home. We had a little rain this afternoon. My little dogwood seedlings are happy. A few weeks from now they'll be putting on leaves. Though, cold winds have blown and bare roots dangled lonesome their settled in and growing. It's been a long winter, but I've learned to believe in Spring. I've learned to believe a dogwood breeze will always blow again.
