Hi, I'm Bryan Yeaton and this is the Weather Notebook.
As if giving a local forecast isn't challenge enough for a TV meteorologist, can you imagine being the one lucky guy in Alaska who gives the weather for the whole state in under 3 minutes? Well, that's the job of Jim Peronto who delivers a public TV broadcast every day from Anchorage. With help from correspondent Amy Mayer, Peronto offers his take on the weather scene in the frozen north. :
JP: Alaska's so big. And there's so much weather going on and it can be happening in many places at the same time. It's really hard to cover everything.
JP: What we try to do is give the most important weather for the state as far as hazardous weather, that's probably the better way to say it.
JP: I just try to focus in on areas that are of most concern during that time. - or even interesting weather, too!
JP: We actually take the TV weather maps for today, tonight and tomorrow and we display them on a computer screen. We look at those images and we just sort of make up a story. And, after 3 minutes we just sign off and say good night, you know, and that's how we do it.
The Weather Notebook is a production of the Mount Washington observatory. It is supported by the National Science Foundation and Subaru.
