Fisherman Tales 2
Fri Feb 13, 2004
Listen in RealAudio
Hi, I'm Bryan Yeaton for The Weather Notebook. Today we finish our conversation with Jerry
Briand and John Dixon, lobstermen from White Point, Cape Breton Island, Canada.
JERRY: Well, we can get a lot of wind, that's for sure. Later on in the fall she can -- she
can come down the Bay here. She's pretty rough. One time she come down, there's a -- a
trailer up there -- I don't know -- how long was that John? Pretty good size trailer. And
she just blew that right across the road.
BRYAN: Really?
JERRY: Yeah. Picked it up and went with it, so ... But I guess that happens everywheres,
according to the news, right?
JERRY: We had a lot of snow last winter. Most snow and cold weather we had here in
years.
BRYAN: You're not out pulling traps at that time?
JERRY: Oh, no, no, no. Like I say, October, that's it for us.
BRYAN: What do you do to keep busy in the winter?
JERRY: Ah, we make traps for the winter and get our fishing gear ready and ...
BRYAN: Work on the engine?
JERRY: Yeah. You know, it's always something to do. Drink a little rum, have a couple of
parties ... to pass away the winter.
BRYAN: And wait for the spring.
JERRY: That's right. Uh, wait for the spring. Hope it is good.
BRYAN: Do you guys like it? Is it a good life out here?
JOHN: Oh, yeah, it's a great life. Better than the city life 'cause I don't really like the
city that much, but ...
BRYAN: Wouldn't change it?
JOHN: No, I wouldn't change it. No.
