The ultimate in summer cruising, next on The Weather Notebook.
Hi, I'm Bryan Yeaton for The Weather Notebook. I had a chance to talk to two of the stars of both the auto and broadcasting worlds, Tom and Ray Magliozzi, hosts of the weekly show, CarTalk. It being summer and all, I posed this important question to them:
BY: If you had your choice of cars that you'd most like to cruise around in the summer with, what would it be? Money is no object.
Click: Mmm.
Clack: Money is no object? Then it won't be.
Click: I'd like a '56 Thunderbird.
Clack: Really?
Click: With a red interior.
Clack: You see, the only problem that I have with that is that it's too small. I would like...
Click: I wasn't planning to invite you.
Clack: I wish I had the car I once owned. A '74 Caprice Classic convertible.
Click: Better than your '65 sleek black beauty Ambassador.
Clack: Well, the Chevy was bigger. You could fit ten people in it.
Click: Yeah, but you didn't know ten people who would want to ride with you!
BY: You go to the drive-in in that?
Clack: Oh man, you could just cruise up and down the boulevard. You know what I mean? And the top was always down because it wouldn't go up.
BY: What car are you forced to drive around in the summertime now?
Clack: Oh no, now I drive around in an even better car, a '52 MGTD, and that's good in the summer, in fact it's only good in the summer.
Click: The Geneva Convention doesn't allow you...
Clack: doesn't allow you to drive it...
Click: to drive it in the winter.
Clack: after September 15th you're not allowed to even start it up.
BY: So, you have that hidden away somewhere in the trunk of another car?
Clack: I have it in a cave.
BY: In what country?
Clack: Nevermind.
Tom and Ray Magliozzi host Car Talk which is aired on public radio stations nationwide. The Weather Notebook is a production of the Mount Washington Observatory and it is supported by The National Science Foundation and Subaru of America.
